Last December, Pantone announced their Color of the Year. Pantone is the world’s largest standardizing color reproduction system. Designers of all specialties rely on Pantone colors to make sure the colors they specify are accurately reproduced.
Every year, Pantone chooses a “Color of the Year.” A color that reflects current mood and trends. This year, for the first time ever, they named two colors instead of just one… a warm tone, Rose Quartz and a cool one, Serenity.
According to Pantone:
In many parts of the world we are experiencing a gender blur as it relates to fashion, which has in turn impacted color trends throughout all other areas of design. This more unilateral approach to color is coinciding with societal movements toward gender equality and fluidity, the consumer’s increased comfort with using color as a form of expression, a generation that has less concern about being typecast or judged and an open exchange of digital information that has opened our eyes to different approaches to color usage.
I’m typically drawn to richer colors, but I have to admit I like these colors together. They have a soft heirloom feel that’s sophisticated but casual at the same time. I put together a pinterest board for some inspiration. Check it out and let me know what you think!
