It’s apple season! What better way to celebrate than with an apple pie inspired dip. You’ll need something to dip with so I also have a recipe for cinnamon and sugar pie crust strips. This quick and easy dip is perfect for serving at all your Fall gatherings.

Let’s begin with the apple pie dip. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 2 C. peeled, cored and diced apples (I used Gala apples, but any slightly sweet apple will work)
  • 2 Tbs. lemon juice
  • 3 Tbs. brown sugar
  • 1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. cornstarch dissolved in 1 tsp. water

On stove top, combine all the ingredients except the cornstarch and water. Heat until boiling. Add cornstarch and water and bring back to a boil. Continue to boil until thickened. Remove from heat and slightly mash the apple mixture. You want to keep it chunky so take care not to over mash the apples and end up with applesauce! Serve warm or cold.

For the cinnamon and sugar pie crust strips you will need:

  • 1 package of 2 premade pie crusts
  • 2 Tbs. milk
  • 2 Tbs. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon

Combine the cinnamon and sugar with a fork in a small bowl and set aside. Unroll one pie crust and brush with milk using a pastry brush. Sprinkle half of the cinnamon sugar mixture on top of the pie crust. Using a pizza cutter, cut the pie crust into 1/2″ x 3″ strips. Place on a parchment lined baking sheet and bake at 400 deg. F. for 8 minutes or until golden brown. Repeat with other pie crust.

Both the apple pie dip and cinnamon pie crust strips can be made ahead and stored until ready to serve making this a great dip to serve at parties. A few members of my family have been know to eat this for breakfast, I won’t name any names but you know who you are!

Enjoy!

Salute, Sharleen
