Chocolate Cherry Pinot Noir Wine-sicles

Chocolate, cherry and wine. Can it get any better? Oh yes, how about a chocolate cherry pinot noir wine-sicle!

Chocolate Cherry Wine-sicle

It’s summer in Chicago, or so they say. It was one of the rare hot days we had and I was craving something cold. I didn’t want ice cream, I try to avoid sugar and besides I really didn’t want anything too sweet. I started to wonder if you could freeze wine. Yes, that is how my mind works. I googled it and saw it was! I actually found several wine popsicles recipes, which made me feel better. I’m not the only wine-obsessed person out there. But what I really wanted was chocolate too… so I went to work.

I used this pop mold that I found at William Sonoma. I like the classic look to it. They also had Classic Space Pop Molds and Double Pop Molds. Adorable!

These chocolate cherry wine-sicles have a bit of a fudgesicle taste to them and it goes perfect with the cherry and Pinot Noir.

Chocolate Cherry Wine-sicle Ingredients

You’ll need about a half bottle of Pinot Noir. I used Robert Mondavi but you can use any red wine that goes well with cherries. Avoid anything heavy and oaky. To sweeten the cocoa powder I used coconut palm sugar. As I mentioned, I try to avoid sugar and coconut palm sugar is a great alternative. It’s low glycemic, which means it won’t spike your blood sugar like regular sugar will. It contains some trace minerals, so you’re not consuming empty calories. Plus it has great flavor, tastes a bit like brown sugar. I may be a wino, but I’m a healthy one! 😉

Chocolate Cherry Wine-sicles

Yield: 8 Popsicles

  • 1/3 Cup Water
  • 1/3 Cup Coconut Palm Sugar
  • 1/3 Cup Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
  • 12 oz Bag of Frozen Cherries
  • 10-11 oz Pinot Noir

  1. Over medium heat, stir together the water, coconut palm sugar and unsweetened cocoa power until they're well blended. Remove from heat.
  2. While the cocoa cools, crush the bag of frozen cherries in a blender. Do a few at a time so all the cherries are crushed.
  3. Transfer crushed cherries to a bowl with pouring spout. Mix in the cocoa and then pour in about 10-11 oz of pinot noir. Stir together. Pour into a popsicle mold.

It’s wine, frozen on a stick… does it get any better than that? I’m sure the hot days of summer are coming and now you’ll be ready.

I hope you enjoy them and stay cool!

Salute, Denise
