Classic Cocktail: Margarita

The margarita is believed to have been created in 1948 by a wealthy Dallas socialite, Margaret “Margarita” Sames. Margaret was on vacation in Acapulco and according to The Nibble, she wanted something refreshing that she cool serve poolside before lunch.

There are many variations of margaritas today, however the classic variety has just three ingredients: tequila, triple sec and lime juice. It can be served three different ways, neat (as shown below), on the rocks or frozen.

  • 1 1/2 ounces tequila
  • 1/2 ounce triple sec
  • 1 ounce lime juice
  • lime wedge for garnish
  • salt to rim the glass

  • Pour ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
  • Shake well.
  • Salt the rim of a chilled margarita glass.
  • Pour contents, with ice, into the glass.
  • Garnish with lime wedge.

Thanks Margaret for creating this tasty concoction. I’ll take mine pool side, on the rocks and with salt please!

P.S. This is available in my Etsy shop as an 8×10 or 11×14 print to frame and hang on your wall.

Salute, Denise

Poolside, on the rocks is definitely the way to go!
