Coffee Station Makeover

April 30, 2014, In: Food and Drink, Home Decor, Organizing

In our kitchen we have a built in desk nook. I’m sure it seemed like a good idea to the builder but the reality is, we never use it. So I decided to turn it into something useful, a coffee/tea station!

We’ve been using the desk nook to house the Keurig for awhile now, but as you can see in the before picture below, it was lacking in style and function.

We began by painting the nook, but didn’t stop there, we painted the entire kitchen! The paint is Olympic paint in “Oyster Shell”. It’s a nice deep brown color that gave the room a coffee house feel.

Then the hubby hung a rod that I purchased from Ikea. I also purchased a set of hooks for hanging mugs and a basket to hold my tea.

We love our Keurig so much that we got rid of our old coffee maker. But all those K-cups need to go somewhere, so I purchased an extra storage drawer from Bed Bath and Beyond in addition to the stand up unit we already had.

Then I added a few extra items like sugar, flavored coffee syrup, to-go mugs with lids and coffee stirrers to make making that morning cup of joe super quick and easy.

Since most of the coffee in our house is consumed in the morning and on the go, I also included a jar for cereal bars and some bananas to make grabbing breakfast on the go easy too!

Do you have a space in your house that you never use? Rethink it, give it a new purpose, one that will serve your needs better, you’ll be glad you did! I know I am!
