Halloween Mummy Cocktail Glasses

October 14, 2015, In: Cocktails, DIY, Entertaining, Halloween

mummy_glassesI saw several Halloween tutorials on mummy glasses but I wanted a grown-up version. I couldn’t find any so I create my own Mummy Cocktail Glasses. You know what Halloween Mummy Cocktail Glasses are good for? Mummy Mudslides! I’ll share that recipe and a fun straw topper to go with it on Friday.

You’ll need:

I didn’t have traditional hurricane glasses so I went out to pick a few up. I could not find them! (Now that I say that… you know what will happen, I’ll see them in every store I go to!) Maybe it’s a seasonal thing, or they’re just not in fashion right now. Either way, I got creative and used these Picardy Stemware water goblets from Pier 1. If you have a hard time finding hurricane glasses, just use anything with a stem at the bottom and wide bowl. They are available on Amazon: Libbey Cocktails Island Hurricane Glasses.

  • Glue two googly eyes to your glass using an Elmer’s Purple Glue Stick. The purple will disappear once the glue dries. You can use any glue you have on hand, but make sure it’s washable!
  • Tie the end of the gauze to the stem of your glass.
  • Pull the cut end of the gauze up and glue it to down to your glass.
  • Cover the rest of your glass with glue, stopping about an inch from the top of the glass.
  • Wrap gauze up your glass, around top and then back down the glass. Pulling firmly as you wrap. Go over the googly eyes, try to hit the edge of the gauze somewhere in the middle of the eyes.
  • When you get to the bottom of the glass, use a little more glue to hold down edges. Cut the gauze and tuck the loose end up under the gauze (you can use glue to hold it in if needed).
  • Push the gauze away from the googly eyes so your mummy is peaking through.

Let the glue dry a few hours, the purple will disappear. To remove the gauze after your done entertaining, just soak your glasses in water for couple minutes then pull off. If you use an Elmer’s Purple Glue Stick, the glue will wash right away!

The really fun part is what goes inside these glasses and I’ll share that on Friday. Mummy Mudslides and Petrified Straw Toppers are coming up!
